Vegetable fabrics for sustainable fashion: hemp and ramie
The Pontex Spring Summer 2023 Collection is committed to making our planet a better place: natural clothing fabrics made with organic and sustainable fibers such as ramie and hemp, for light and comfortable, resistant but fashionable garments
The Pontex Spring Summer 2023 Collection is made of natural raw materials and organic and sustainable fibers such as ramie and hemp, to create light and resistant fabrics for clothing, in dialogue between sustainability and creation.
Pontex 2023 textile productions are respectful of nature and the environment, because the magic word that unites the novelties of the new collection is only one: sustainable fashion, from the yarn to the finished product.
Ramié
Ramie is a vegetable textile fiber, obtained from the stems of some very ancient spontaneous plants of the Urticaceae family, Boehmeria nivea and Boehmeria utilis, which grow mainly in China and Malaysia. The ramie fabric is produced from its processing, very similar to silk and therefore defined as “vegetable silk”; ramie textile fiber is also known as Chinagrass, or “Grass of China”.
The characteristics of ramie
Ramie is characterized by high breathability and elasticity, by brightness and softness: to increase even more resistance and brightness in the fabrics, it is often mixed with other types of fibers (natural or synthetic) such as cotton, hemp, wool, silk and viscose.
It is an elastic fiber and has good resistance to twisting. It does not shrink or discolor, and it dries easily.
Clothing made with ramie
Ramie can be used to make very particular garments, as well as sustainable and eco-friendly, because ramie is a fairly rare textile fiber and its complex processing makes it not always easy to find.
Ramie is an ally fabric of the Pontex Spring Summer 2023 Collection, which focuses on precious and impalpable fabrics for clothing, with nuances that recall the cold shades of gray, so loved to create a perfect, trendy and casual chic look.
Hemp
Hemp is a natural, sustainable fiber that can be processed without the use of chemicals. The textile fibers produced with hemp are soft and shiny and make it possible to create lightweight but at the same time resistant, breathable fabrics for clothing, which guarantee comfort but above all high resistance to abrasion.
To the naked eye, the fabric made with hemp can be confused with linen, due to the texture it presents: observing it well, we can see its subtle variations in thickness.
The characteristics of hemp
Clothing fabrics made with hemp are breathable, hypoallergenic, thermoregulatory, anti-microbial, luminous, soft. They are resistant to mites, bacterial growth, mold, termites, chemicals and even fire.
Furthermore, hemp dries easily and is able to protect the skin thanks to the natural filtration of UV rays.
Clothing made with hemp
With hemp it is possible to make garments that do not shrink or discolour if subjected to washing; in fact, the textile hemp fiber does not wear out after each wash as it happens with other fabrics, thanks to its very high resistance. Plus, it retains colors better than any other fabric.
Wearing a piece of clothing made with hemp means immediately wearing a feeling of softness and comfort, of contact with nature, to feel at ease and to protect the environment, for us and for future generations.
Pontex has made hemp its workhorse for the Spring Summer 2023 Collection, in full harmony with green fashion, with clothing fabrics that make it possible to create eco-friendly and low environmental impact garments. The palette is made of neutral and natural shades, which marries the sand beige, to make our wardrobe sensual and refined, at any time.
Pontex moves away from excessive consumerism to approach the issue of creating with awareness: to look forward with energy and confidence, in constant balance between immediate pleasure and sustainability.
